How to learn Hebrew online with  "Hebrew Blackboard"  website

In the following section we will introduce you to what we believe is the best way to learn Hebrew online using "Hebrew Blackboard" website. However, do feel free to use any other methodology which you find suitable for you.

Our website is comprised of stories, jokes, smart sayings and other texts. Here are the steps we recommend for reading a story (or a joke, smart saying, or any other type of text portion):

Steps for reading "HEBREW-BLACKBOARD" text:

(it will be convenient for you if you print the list of steps below)

  1. Read the text for the first time. Take all the time you need. Learn the meaning of the words you do not know by using our online word translation and entire sentence translation tools.

  2. Read the entire story at least once without using the translation. If you cannot do so, then learn the words you do not know, and read the entire story again and again, until you can read it without using the translation. It is OK if after a day or two you forget some of the words, but try to read the story at least once without the translation.

  3. Listen to the story narration, while simultaneously reading the text. It may be difficult at first to read at the pace of the narration, but give it several tries.

  4. Read the entire text outloud at least once.

  5. Turn OFF the vowels (There is a button at the top left corner of each text portion which enables you to turn the vowels on and off). Read the text without vowels. Repeat this step until you can read the entire text without vowels at least once. ( It is OK if the next day you forget how to read some portions of it, but try to read it at least once).

  6. Read the text aloud again (this time without vowels).

  7. Listen again to the voice narration of the text, this time WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE TEXT, and make sure that you understand it. You can pause or stop the voice narration at any time in case there are too many words you do not recognize.

Points to consider during your study:

  • It is OK if after a day or more you forget the meaning of some of the words. It will also be more difficult for you to read again the same text without vowels, or listen to its voice narration. However, you will experience improvement in time !

  • Do not attempt to progress too fast. Take the time you need.

  • You can print the text portions of the stories, and read it before going to bed, or whenever you feel like.

  • Each text will be available for 1 month, and then removed from the website. If you wish, you can print the story text for future use - for your own personal use only ( All text in this website is copyrighted. You can make a hardcopy for your own personal Hebrew learning study but you may not distribute it to others ).

We wish you good luck and lots of fun in your Hebrew studies !
